LAPD brutality: man kicked in head by cop after chase

A police chase in LA turned into a foot chase when a suspect crashed his vehicle.

An officer can clearly be seen on the video kicking suspect, Richard Rodriguez, 23, after Rodriguez voluntarily lay spreadeagled on the ground, face down.

The incident was captured by news coptors that were following the chase.

The cop came at the suspect as though intent on converting a penalty. The kick was vicious and clearly targeted Rodriguez' head.

In another frame a different cop can be seen punching Rodriguez in the side.

The penalties for casual police brutality often amounts to little more than a slap on the wrist. The officer in question couldn't have been too worried about consequences since he hauled off and booted Rodriguez in the head with news coptors overhead.

The kicker and another cop sure didn't look concerned about their conduct when they celebrated their take-down with a high five.

The American Civil Liberties Union has called for the immediate suspension of the officer who kicked Rodriguez. It has also called on the Los Angeles County District Attorney to conduct a full and thorough investigation.

ACLU executive director, Ramona Ripson said:

This video is truly chilling in the clarity with which it captures an egregious example of police abuse.

Whatever the suspect may have done to justify his arrest, punishment in our system of justice is meted out by courts following fair trials, not by lone officers inflicting physical beatings as they see fit.
